I have been using the square foot gardening method for about twenty years. I first learned of it through Mel Bartholomew's book Square Foot Gardening (publishing by Rodale Press in 1981). Last year while doing some research for this site, I discovered that Mel has written an updated version of his book. All New Square Foot Gardening was published in 2006 by Cool Springs Press. Mel continues to give lots of practical, easy-to-follow advice and step-by-step instructions. This version has lots more illustrations, too.

Why a new version? Mel has learned new, improved ways to prepare the garden beds after twenty-five years. This year we plan to begin the conversion of our garden to these new methods.
